TsuboKi®Japanese Face Massage
‘Tsubo’ is a
point along a meridian where the body’s energy is most
easily influenced and ‘Ki’ is the name of this energy. A
combination of ‘Anma’, Traditional Japanese massage
techniques (literally meaning ‘rubbing’), and acupressure
is used, working on both the underlying facial musculature
as well as the surface skin, increasing circulation and
removing toxins; there are 12 main meridians in the body, 8
of which run through the face, and by working on these
points we are affecting the whole body. This may be why
people report afterwards feeling like they’ve had a deep
tissue body massage.
Dermal rollers,‘RidoKi’, are used to invigorate the skin,
with traditional Japanese Camelia Oil leaving it soft and
smooth. Working in this way improves the condition of the
facial skin, diminishing wrinkles, improving muscle tone,
activating the facial nerves, thus increasing the flow of
Ki, Chi or Prana to the face and hey presto, a natural
facelift! Catherine has trained in Advanced (level 2)
Tsuboki.

TSUBOKI® Japanese Face Massage is a wonderfully relaxing
yet energising treatment suitable for men or women who want
to feel good on the inside and the outside.
Based in part on the principles of acupressure, it is a
modern take on meridian theory, which goes back thousands
of years in Japan and China. TSUBO = acupressure point -
this is a place along a meridian where the energy can be
most influenced, affecting the body on many levels (see
elsewhere). KI = the energy that flows through the
meridians.
TSUBOKI® = massage using the tsubos to influence the flow
of Ki in the body!
In short, it is a "full body" massage and "natural
facelift" combined into a relaxing and restorative facial
treatment. WOW!The Japanese believe that beauty is more
than skin deep, and that to be beautiful you have to be
healthy too. The fantastic thing about Tsuboki™ Japanese
face massage is that it works on many levels at the same
time, from the inside and the outside. By working
superficially we improve skin tone and lymph flow. By
working with the musculature at a deeper level, we can
affect muscle tone and general appearance, as well as
prepare the face for the next stage. By working with the
meridians that run through the face, we can affect the
balance of health in the whole body. In addition, many of
the Tsubos have a specific beneficial effect on the
appearance of the face. By working with the lymphatic
system we encourage the removal of metabolic waste
products. Many of the techniques can help to prevent lines,
wrinkles, and puffiness - a natural facelift!
The face is a very accessible part of the body to offer for
massage, yet face massage can be the most intimate and
nurturing of massages. The face massage is incredibly
relaxing to receive, but 7 of the 8 meridians that run
through the face are the yang, or more energising ones.
This may explain why clients often report feeling deeply
relaxed during the massage but balanced and energised
afterwards.
TsuboKi™ massage comprises four specific stages:
1: massage to the neck and shoulders to increase
circulation to the face
and reduce tension in these areas
2: a detailed face massage using camellia oil as
traditionally used in Japan
(this is fragrance free).
3: working more than 50 tsubos and 8 meridians
4: lymphatic drainage to eliminate toxins
Please Note: In some circumstances Tsuboki™ Japanese Face
Massage may not be appropriate - this includes pregnancy or
recent procedures such as Botox. If you are in any doubt as
to whether the massage is suitable for you,
please email me.
