When baby comes along, why not share the joys of massage with your little one. Baby massage is not new- it’s been done for thousands of years all over the world, and is increasing in popularity in the west as its benefits are being revealed. For example:
* Can ease colic
* Promotes bonding
* Premature babies thrive better with touch
* Decreases levels of stress hormones in the urine
* Improves flexibility, circulation, immune system
* IT’S FUN!
This is not therapeutic massage, but rather a way to encourage communication through touch between parents and children. Anyone can do it, but most parents like to be given a few pointers. I teach courses of 4x 1 hour (approximately) classes at my home in Binfield. A special time to spend with your baby and to socialise with other parents. Price (£45) includes comprehensive handout, oil, and refreshments.

One to one or small group tuition is also available - please contact me for details.

Baby & Child Massage

Massage and Aromatherapy can be very useful for children and teenagers who are sitting exams, or having a stressful time for whatever reason. Parents are asked to accompany children under 16 to treatments.

½ hr £20, 1 hr £30,
or 4 x ½ hr £65, 4 x 1 hr £100

"Infant massage has traditionally been used throughout many cultures around the world, but has only recently gained popularity in the West. European and American mothers are now discovering that massage has massive benefits for both their baby and themselves. Research has shown, and mothers agree, that because touch conveys nurturing and love, massage enhances bonding between mother and baby. Also, because massage releases endorphins (the body’s natural pain reliever) it helps to reduce the pain of colic and teething, helps to clear sinus and chest infection, helps baby to relax and induces sound, healthy sleep. Research has also shown that children who are massaged show decreased levels of stress hormones. And children who are experiencing conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma or diabetes show less anxiety and report feelings of increased well being after massage. Massage therapy is used to help children suffering chronic pain, and research has also shown that children with ADHD, autism and other special needs also benefit greatly from the massage experience. When organising massage for children, it’s especially important to ask the child for permission before the massage begins, and also to ensure that the therapist is thoroughly qualified to work with, and sensitive to, the needs of children."

Pre & Ante Natal treatments
Holistic Massage and Traditional Thai Yoga Massage are great supportive therapies during pregnancy and before and after birth. Aromatherapy can be very useful too. Please click on the relevant therapy headings for further information and prices. Advice on using essential oils during pregnancy and with babies can be given as part of your treatment after-care advice.
Massage, Aromatherapy and Traditional Thai Yoga Massage should be avoided during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
"More and more women are finding that a weekly or monthly massage during pregnancy helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation; provides emotional support (especially for those women who are going through the experience alone); relieves muscle spasms, cramps and general aches and pains; increases circulation and thus reduces the possibility of varicose veins and swelling in the feet and legs; helps with digestion and reduces the likelihood of stretch marks. Pregnant clients report that their massage sessions leave them feeling relaxed and comfortable, and with increased self-confidence and an enhanced body image. However, massage during pregnancy should be avoided by women with placental dysfunctions, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, toxaemia or threatened miscarriage. If in any doubt at all, have a chat with your doctor before booking an appointment with a therapist."

The hormonal changes that happen in a woman’s body cause many physical and emotional changes that massage can help. Softening ligaments mean the muscles have to work harder to stabilise joints, meaning unaccustomed aches and pains. Carrying an increasingly heavy load is hard work! And during pregnancy it is important to look after yourself physically, as well as to feel nurtured and pampered. Your body can feel alien as the pregnancy progresses; massage helps you to feel in touch with your body, and helps you to relax as you prepare for the birth.

Using a combination of pillows to support you, it is possible to receive a wonderfully comfortable full body massage right up to delivery:
Various options are available, including:
* Leg and foot massage for tired legs
* Seated clothed massage for back, neck and shoulders
* Indian head massage
* Side lying oil-based back massage or leg and foot massage
* And for the ultimate relaxation; side lying full body massage giving you the time out you deserve

Catherine has undergone specialist training in massage for pregnancy.

* Massage and Aromatherapy should never be regarded as an alternative to orthodox medical treatment, but should rather complement it. If you are receiving treatment or medication from your doctor, it may be necessary to check with your GP before having a treatment. Please make the practitioner aware of all relevant medical history, any medication you may be taking and alert her to any allergies you have. Massage, Aromatherapy, Traditional Thai Yoga Massage and Essential Oils should be avoided during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The therapist cannot diagnose or treat illnesses of any kind.
