Traditional Thai
Yoga Massage
This traditional massage from Thailand, works on releasing
blockages along the body’s system of ‘Shen’ lines, through
which our energy is said to move throughout the body.
Pressure point and Thai massage techniques along with Hatha
Yoga asanas combine to create this flowing, dynamic and
meditative therapy, assisting the body in it’s natural
tendency towards self-balance. Surprisingly relaxing,
suitable for limber or stiff bodies and during pregnancy*
(*Massage should be avoided during the first 12 weeks of
pregnancy.)
30 mins £35, 90 mins £45, 120 mins £55

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage works on a subtle energy line
system in the body (the Ten Sen) through which our energy
is said to be distributed, transformed and used by the
body; by stimulating specific energy points along these
lines, we can release blockages and allow a free-flow of
our energy (Prana, Chi or Ki) throughout our body. This
massage differs from Western massage not only in technique
and method but also in that the client receives the massage
fully clothed lying on a mat on the floor.
Catherine trained in
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage with Gemma Jimenez (ITEC
Dip TTM Dip TC Dip CSAS), Richdales Institute in 2004.
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage aims to release toxins and
waste materials from the joints, muscles and connective
tissue, and to gently stimulate the internal organs by
light pressure on specific energy points.
Starting with the client's feet, pressure point massage
from the therapist's thumb, palm, elbow, knee and foot
along the energy lines and at specfic points, as well as
mobilisation of the client's joints with passive stretches,
combine to unravel muscular knots and tensions in the body;
this helps to improve joint mobility, stimulate lymph flow
and detoxification and encourage blood flow and cellular
oxygenation.
This therapy is said to help improve circulation, release
muscle tension, increase joint flexibility, assist posture
and alignment, relieve tension and spasm, expediate
metabolism, boost the immune system and help balance the
body energetically thus inducing calmness.
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage has been described as a type
of assisted Hatha yoga. Careful attention is given to the
recipient's level of flexibility and breath as they gently
move the individual into different poses, with the
therapist's body weight gently used to assist in stretches;
the pressure of the point work and the depth of stretch are
constantly assessed, so as not to cause discomfort in any
way.
The treatment also promotes the release of endorphins in
the body, further promoting relaxation. By working the body
physically and energetically, Thai Yoga massage produces a
highly therapeutic effect that can help to relieve common
conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, headaches,
digestive, menstrual and menopausal problems and
stress-related conditions, as well as providing an overall
sense of relaxation which helps one to deal better with
emotional issues.
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage can be traced back to India
at least 3,000 years ago (the origins of some of the Yogic
exercises and stretches used in the treatment) and then
onto Thailand, where it was practised by the monks at the
great Wat’s or temples, alongside herbal medicine and
spiritual practises. To this day great stone reliefs stand
in the temple of Wat Po, showing detailed drawings of the
body's Shen lines. Thai medicine is based on the belief
there is an intrinsic life force or energy (prana) that
circulates within the body. To create health and vitality,
it is essential to allow this energy to circulate freely;
when prana is blocked, it is said that sickness or disease
results which can manifest physically or emotionally.
Thai Yoga Massage is said to exemplify the four Divine
states of Mind described in Buddhist teachings: Loving
Kindness, Compassion, Vicarious Joy and Equanimity.
Traditionally taught and practised with the aim of
embodying these states in action, it is often referred to
as ‘Meditation in Movement’ or the ‘Art of Loving
Kindness’. For the therapist, the massage is also a
meditative practise.
A course of treatments might be advised to fully facilitate
rebalance.
As always, book 3 treatments and your 4th is free.
