Holistic literally means looking after or taking into consideration the ‘Whole’ person; your physical, mental and emotional states. Catherine trained in Holistic Massage at Richdales Institute in London, qualifying with an ITEC diploma in Anatomy & Physiology and Massage Therapy with Credit in October 2002.

With the client relaxing on a heated massage plinth, Catherine uses Swedish, pressure-point, deep tissue and lymphatic drainage techniques, tailoring each treatment to how the individual feels on the day.

As with all therapies at Indigo Holistics, a consultation will be taken before the treatment to assess areas of tension and stress, pinpointing which massage techniques will be of most value to the client, choosing a suitable oil or cream for the skin, and establishing if there are any contra-indications to the treatment. In this way, Catherine can create a unique treatment plan with and for each client.

The whole idea behind massage therapy is to stimulate the blood and lymphatic systems, helping the body to release and eliminate toxins and rebalance itself. A very beneficial therapy for aching muscles and areas of tension, massage is a perfect maintenance therapy to help keep the body fit and well. Massage also encourages the body to make Oxytocin and release endorphins, helping to reduce stress and promote happiness.

An organic oil, or plant-based vegan balm or cream is chosen to suit your skin; this could be a blend of Apricot Kernel oil, Evening Primrose, Macadamia, Olive, Sunflower or even Coconut to mention but a few - there are over 15 at least to choose from, each with unique properties. See
Aromatherapy for more information about the oils; you may also like to see Aromatherapy Massage for information on massage using essential oils.

There are occasions where a client may feel a little head-achey or tired following a treatment, especially if they have not had a massage for a long time. This is simply a result of the body having a good work out and symptoms should pass in the following 12 hours when the body has had a chance to clear out toxins. The client is encouraged to drink plenty of water and should feel stronger and clearer the following day.

Massage treatments can be cumultative, meaning that a course of treatments might be recommended to help fully facilitate rebalance.
When booking a course of 3 massage treatments, your 4th is free.

*Massage should never be regarded as an alternative to orthodox medical treatment, but should rather complement it. If you are receiving treatment or medication from your doctor, it may be necessary to check with your GP before having a treatment. Please make the practitioner aware of all relevant medical history and alert her to any allergies you have. Massage should be avoided during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The therapist cannot and does not diagnose or treat illnesses of any kind.
